
BIO:
Andrew Nicholls was born in Croxley Green, England, and grew up in Oshawa, Ontario. At twelve he met and began writing comedy and music with Darrell Vickers, a collaboration that continues. In Canada, Nicholls & Vickers wrote for comedians and comic strips, radio and industrial shows, sitcoms and variety programs.
The team moved to Los Angeles to work on Alan Thicke’s talk/variety show, Thicke Of The Night. They also began writing scripts and personal appearance material for Mickey Rooney, and were invited to work with George Carlin on his first HBO special. By 1986 they were staff writers for Johnny Carson on NBC’s Tonight Show, where they became head writers in 1988, earning 4 Emmy nominations.
After six years at NBC, they turned to sitcoms and animation. They’ve sold 80 pilot scripts, of which 35 have been produced and 23 have gone to series.
Since 2013, Nicholls has written short fiction for literary and humorous magazines and websites. In 2019 his play {LOVE/Logic} was produced at the UC Davis Department of Theater and Dance, where he was Granada Artist In Residence. His play Bee In A Jar was produced in 2021 by Catalyst: a Theater Think Tank, and his one-act Yes, And… was produced in 2022 at the Palace Theater in Frostburg, Maryland.
He has one son, and lives in Silver Lake, California with his wife, novelist Janet Fitch.
